This mural was created with the intention of bringing life back into one of the art buildings on my college campus. As co-creator, I made preliminary sketches that we would loosely work off of when getting started to have a jumping off point for our ideas. Aniyah, the other co-creator had a similar vision which was to keep the mural black and white and to touch upon the principles of design that you learn in this very building. This building, Hamilton Hall, holds all of the introductory art courses, so leading you up the stairway to the classes was a fun way to make the space inviting.

The first portion that was completed was the doorway to the stairs. Both in the stairway and on the doors hold posters and signs to other events around campus, so they had to be worked around. We went with paper instead of vinyl or paint to make it a temporary installment that could easily be taken down or added to if need be.

Many people have said this mural brings a positive energy into the space, hearing from a classmate that they heard someone ask, "Why is Hamilton Hall happy all of the sudden?" Not only has it been a good addition to the building, but people are adding to the mural too. We put up signs to encourage passersby’s to draw in the white spaces, and people have already began to embrace this suggestion with open arms.
